Altoona School Board Spring Election Information

The Altoona District will be electing two board members in the Spring 2023 election. The school board is made up of five members who serve nonpartisan three-year terms. The Altoona School Board's Clerk Hillarie Roth, and member Nicole Breed both have terms ending in April 2023. The seats up for election will be for terms lasting April 2023-April 2026.

Both incumbents, Roth and Breed, are running for another term. Also on the ballot will be challenger Lauren Otto.

Referendum Question:

The Altoona school board voted to include a referendum question on this spring's ballot. The school is looking to buy and remodel the National Business Institute. They hope to use the building to house up to 350 to 375 4k, kindergarteners, and 1st graders. This would open up space to move the 4th and 5th graders to the elementry school, while keeping the 6th through 12th graders at the main campus.

In order to do this, Altoona is looking for $26 million as a 20-year bond or loan. For homeowners, if this passes it means that means 69 cents will be added to your property taxes for every $1,000 of assessed value.
