Altoona City Council Spring Election Information

Altoona Council Seats

The City of Altoona is governed by a mayor and a 6 member city council, who all serve a 3 year term as of 2022 (the mayor will serve a 2 year term from 2022-2024 and then start serving 3 year terms starting in April 2024). Each City Council member is elected by districts, and each member represents about 1,270 people.

This spring districts 4 (ward 7, 8), 5 (ward 9, 10) and 6 (ward 11, 12) are up for election. These postions are currently held by Matthew Biren, Kaitlyn Leopold and Susan Rowe, respectively. The other districts, 1, 2, and 3, will be up for election April 2025.

There are no challengers for this election, so just the incumbents, Biren, Leopold, and Rowe, will be on the ballot.

 

Election Timeline

Dec. 1, 2022: First day to circulate Nomination Papers

December 23, 2022: Incumbents to file Declaration of Candidacy OR
Notification of Noncandidacy by 5 p.m.
(City Hall Closed December 23 & 24)

January 3, 2023: Last day to file Declaration of Candidacy, Nomination Papers
and Campaign Finance Registration Statement
All papers and forms are due in the City Clerk's Office by 5 p.m.

February 21, 2023: Spring Primary (if necessary)

April 4, 2023: Spring Election
