The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire is a leader for academic excellence, undergraduate research and providing students with signature active-learning experiences to prepare them for success in a connected world influenced by global economic and social forces. UW-Eau Claire’s 9,000 students are drawn to Wisconsin’s most beautiful campus where they find an unwavering commitment to innovation, leadership, collaboration, student success and public service.
UW-Eau Claire and Mayo Clinic Health System have a ground-breaking research collaboration that connects student researchers directly with medical experts. One of only three in the nation, this agreement expands innovative opportunities and improvements to community healthcare research in northwestern Wisconsin, while providing Blugolds with research opportunities they won’t find anywhere else. The combined expertise is preparing the next generation of medical pioneers to improve lives in the region, state, country and around the globe, and it is a driving force behind UW-Eau Claire’s goal to be a national leader in healthcare education.
UW-Eau Claire is one of the top academic universities in the country as evidenced in rankings from Forbes, U.S. News & World Report, Money, The Wall Street Journal and The Princeton Review. Blugolds earn top-level honors, including Rhodes, Truman and Goldwater scholarships. The university is among the top master’s universities in the country for the number of students who receive Fulbright grants in the federal government’s international academic exchange program. UW-Eau Claire announced the creation of the Mark Stephen Cosby Honors College in early 2025, which is a critical part of the university’s Vision 2030 strategic plan.
The university’s goal is for every Blugold to engage in a signature active-learning experience including community engagement, undergraduate research, internships, clinicals and immersion experiences. By their senior year, nearly half of all students have worked with faculty on research and other scholarly projects, with results presented by students at regional, national and international conferences. UW-Eau Claire hosted the National Conference on Undergraduate Research in 2023, and every spring the university engages in a week-long Celebration of Excellence in Research and Creative Activity.
UW-Eau Claire is also a leader in sustainability as students, faculty and staff have focused on major initiatives from campus operations to academics over the last decade. The $122 million university-operated event and recreation facility, The Sonnentag, is the largest LEED V4 gold-certified recreational center in the nation operated by a public university, according to the U.S. Green Building Council. The campus has a STARS silver sustainability rating and annually is in The Princeton Review Guide to Green Colleges. UWEC has an extensive array of coursework focused on sustainability and the university provides internships for students who want to work in the fast-growing career field.
And when it comes to preparing students for a successful career, UW-Eau Claire is leading the charge to help graduates meet the state’s workforce needs. The most recent survey of graduates, UW-Eau Claire’s First Destination survey, found that 99% were employed or continuing their education within six months of graduating from UW-Eau Claire.
